What is Integrative Medicine?
Integrative medicine is a healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person (body, mind & spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and makes use of all appropriate therapies, both conventional and alternative.
Integrative Medicine & Direct Primary Care
At Osteopathic Healing Arts in Libertyville, IL, we offer both conventional and alternative integrative medicine. Through our Direct Primary Care (DPC) model, you receive comprehensive primary health care and pay for this care through a monthly membership fee. This fee covers the primary integrative medicine services you see below and may also cover others not currently listed. We do not participate in any insurance or plans, thus being able to avoid the ever-increasing demands and costs associated with accepting insurance. This saves you money and gives you a greater level of service, as your medical provider has more time to spend listening to and treating you.
Principles of Integrative Medicine
- A partnership between patient and practitioner in the healing process
- Appropriate use of conventional and alternative methods to facilitate the body’s innate healing response
- Consideration of all factors that influence health, wellness and disease, including mind and spirit
- A philosophy that neither rejects conventional medicine nor accepts alternative therapies uncritically
- Recognition that good medicine should be based in good science, be inquiry driven, and be open
- Use of natural, effective, less-invasive interventions whenever possible
- Use of the broader concepts of promotion of health and the prevention of illness as well as treatment
- Practitioners are to be models of health and healing, committed to self-exploration and self-development
