Joseph J. Starkman, DO

Dr. Starkman is a Board Certified Family Physician and a graduate of Midwestern University-Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He completed his post-graduate training at the University of Chicago (Northshore) Family Medicine Residency Program. His treatment approach is integrative; Dr. Starkman utilizes Family Medicine, Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy (OMT), Nutrition and Functional Medicine to help patients recover from illness and optimize their health.  His western medical approach is based in conventional family medicine, but also incorporates hormone testing/balancing, the HCG weight-loss protocol and more.

Dr. Starkman treats both children and adults with Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT).  He has been training in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) since 2004 and primarily uses Cranial Osteopathy based in the Biodynamic model, along with myofascial release and balanced ligamentous tension techniques.

Dr. Starkman practices Integrative Family Medicine, blending Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) with conventional western medicine to help his patients regain and maintain their optimal health. He began studying Tai Chi in 1998 and then also became a Reiki practitioner in 2004. He studied the Bodytalk system as well and certified in 2004.  Dr. Starkman has interests in magnetic therapy devices and used the MagnoPro for several years.  The office recently acquired a BEMER therapy device, which patients can use by appointment.

Therese E. Adams

Nurse Practitioner

Therese E. Adams MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Mrs. Adams is a proud native of Mundelein, IL and so happy to be serving the community in which she grew up.

Mrs. Adams started her nursing career at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, IL. She then received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Chamberlain College of Nursing in Addison, IL. As an RN, she worked in multiple departments within the hospital setting ranging from medical-surgical to orthopedics to oncology. She also served at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, IL for over 7 years before becoming a nurse practitioner. It was there that she found her love of holistic nursing and in turn, holistic health care. She was able to see doctors utilize homeopathy, supplements, and other complementary modalities to aid in the treatment and recovery of multiple patients.

Mrs. Adams feels blessed to have join Dr. Joseph Starkman in his practice. Not only does it allow her to incorporate natural treatments, but encourages her growth and education.

She found by working with Dr. Starkman in the Direct Primary Care (DPC) model to be extremely rewarding, as she enjoys talking with her patients and getting to the root cause of their issues. The DPC model allows her to spend extra time without being rushed.

Mrs. Adams looks forward to learning more and growing her practice here at Osteopathic Healing Arts.

Currently, she lives in Volo with her husband, daughter, and two dogs. She enjoys spending time outdoors and taking her dogs to the dog park.

At Osteopathic Healing Arts, LLC, we strive to give you quality care in order to help you reach your health & life goals. The distinct advantage of Direct Primary Care with Osteopathic Healing Arts, LLC is that we focus on you & your health without the insurance companies getting involved.

Notes From Dr. Starkman

At Osteopathic Healing Arts LLC, we treat the patient as a whole and focus on finding the health in the individual, rather than the disease. Dr. Starkman will take the time to get to know you and your concerns. Our medical model is based on Family Medicine, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM), Nutrition and Complementary and Alternative (CAM) therapies. With this comprehensive and integrative approach, you can create a healthier and more balanced life.

On July 1st, 2016, Dr. Starkman purchased Dr. Elvove’s practice. After working for him for the last 5 years, Dr. Starkman gained an appreciation for both his patient population and practice style. It is not typical these days to find a holistic practice like Dr. Elvove’s. Much of the current medical model has become technologically driven and encounters with providers feel rushed or strained. It was nice to see a more laid-back approach to healthcare that remained comprehensive and attentive to patient needs. It was a natural progression for Dr. Starkman to take over.

At Osteopathic Healing Arts, LLC, we look forward to both carrying on the tradition of Dr. Elvove and modernizing certain aspects of the current practice model. While continuing all the same services, several new services will be offered and other changes will occur.

First off, Dr. Starkman is an Osteopathic physician with training in Cranial Osteopathy. Osteopaths use this gentle, hands-on therapy, for treating a wide variety of medical conditions, including a migraine headache, post-concussion syndrome, infant colic, sports injuries, and many other conditions. Dr. Starkman encourages all of his patients to learn about the benefits of Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy and especially, Cranial Osteopathy. Over time, there will be more articles and general information on a variety of complementary and alternative therapies on this website. You can also discuss different treatment options one on one with Dr. Starkman.
